چکیده

In this paper, we address the question that how to design efficient MAC protocols in selfish and noncooperative networks, which is crucial in nowadays open environments. We model the medium access control problem as a non-cooperative game in which the MAC protocol can be regarded as distributed strategy update scheme approaching the equilibrium point. Under such game theoretical framework, three MAC protocols, the aggressive, conservative and cheat-proof MAC protocol, are then proposed with tunable parameters allowing them to converge to desired social optimal point. The first two MAC protocols require network participants to follow the rules, while the cheat-proof MAC protocol can survive the selfish environments where nodes are pure self-interested. Based on our game theoretical analysis, we provide a general methodology for designing efficient MAC protocols in non-cooperative and selfish environments. We believe that the proposed methodology not only provides a general way of designing stable and controllable MAC protocols achieving high performance even in selfish environments, but also provides a general framework that can be extended to design efficient protocols in other non-cooperative and selfish environments.

A Game Theoretical Approach to Design: A MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

Game Theory provides a mathematical tool for the analysis of interactions between the agents with conflicting interests, hence it is a suitable tool to model some problems in communication systems, especially, to wireless sensor networks (WSNs) where the prime goal is to minimize energy consumption than high throughput and low delay. Another important aspect of WSNs are their ad-hoc topology. I...

A Survey of Game Theory in Wireless Networking Design

Game theory is a discipline aimed at modeling situations in which decision makers have mutual, possibly conflicting interests. Although originally developed in the field of economics, it has also been applied to wireless networking design in the past several years. Some of the competitive environment in wireless networks lends itself naturally to a game theoretic formulation. In this paper, we ...

Energy Efficient Novel Design of Static Random Access Memory Memory Cell in Quantum-dot Cellular Automata Approach

This paper introduces a peculiar approach of designing Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) memory cell in Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) technique. The proposed design consists of one 3-input MG, one 5-input MG in addition to a (2×1) Multiplexer block utilizing the loop-based approach. The simulation results reveals the excellence of the proposed design. The proposed SRAM cell achieves 16% ...

A Game-Theoretic Model for Medium Access Control

In this paper, a game-theoretic model for contention based medium access control (contention control) is proposed. We define a general game-theoretic model, called random access game, to capture the distributed nature of contention control and the interaction among wireless nodes with contention-based medium access. We study the design of random access games, characterize their equilibria, stud...

Joint Rate Adaptation and Medium Access in Wireless LANs: a Non-cooperative Game Theoretic Perspective

Wireless local area networks (WLANs) based on IEEE 802.11 standards are becoming ubiquitous today and typically support multiple data rates. In such multi-rate WLANs, distributed medium access and rate adaptation are two key elements to achieve efficient radio resource utilization, especially in noncooperative environments. In this paper, we present an analytical study on the non-cooperative mu...
